The Department of Mathematics is one of the departments under the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Andalas University which was established on March 5, 1996. The first batch of students was accepted in the 1996 or 1997 academic year. In the early years of its establishment, there was only one Mathematics Study Program under the Mathematics Department. Furthermore, in 2009, the Computer Systems Undergraduate Study Program was established under the auspices of the Department of Mathematics. In 2012, the Computer Systems Undergraduate Study Program switched positions to become one of the study programs under the auspices of the Faculty of Information Technology, Andalas University. Since 2013, the Master's Study Program in mathematics, which was previously under the Andalas University Postgraduate Program, has been shifted to a position under the Department of Mathematics. Currently, the Mathematics undergraduate  Study Program has obtained an A accreditation from BAN-PT which is valid until October 20, 2021, based on BAN-PT Decree No. 2515/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/X/2016.
